Secondary Dance X Factor

GREENHEAD STEEL THE SHOW

GREENHEAD STEEL THE SHOW

SECONDARY DANCE X FACTOR

WEDNESDAY 9TH DECEMBER 2009

Beckfoot School played hosts to the first Oakbank and Beckfoot joint School Sports Partnership Secondary Dance X Factor. Parents, family and friends were witness to an evening of high quality dance performance. Teachers and pupils had committed hours of practice time to prepare dances especially for the competition. Emotions were running high in anticipation of what was to be a fantastic celebration of dance.

Footsteps Theatre School kick started the night with a demonstration that strengthened the reason why any young aspiring dancer should join a club. Dances from St Josephs, Oakbank, Nab Wood, and Greenhead Secondary Schools were applauded by parents, family, friends, and peers alike. Dancers encouraged crowd participation, made use of props and sparkles and enjoyed every minute. Some used music based stories, mixed dance styles and all expressed themselves. Performances were so uplifting they made the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end.

While judges were deliberating the results High Energy Dance Academy performed an amazing dance. Dancers aged 6 to 16 were break dancing, popping and vaulting in perfect sink with each other. The standing ovation that followed was a fitting appreciation for an outstanding performance.

Where the competition was concerned the Greenhead “Mix Dup” dance stole the show. Dancing with expression the performance told the story of the trials and tribulations of growing up as a young person in todays society. This was performed superbly by the main character. At first she was bullied at school but remained strong to overcome insecurities and bullying in order to succeed. This was an extremely appropriate motivational dance to perform.

Performances by the Respect I and Respect II dancers from Nab Wood and the Year 7 Step Up and Star Struck groups from Oakbank were commended. Special mention should go to the dance groups from St Josephs. Third place was the St Josephs II. Second place just 4 points behind Greenhead went to a mixed hip hop classical compilation extremely well performed by St Josephs I.
